5 Study Tips for College Students

For many new and returning college students, classes are starting soon. This means listening to lectures, writing down notes, and taking tests. Having good study habits will be a tremendous help in the success of passing those courses, so we've made a list of 5 study tips to help college students excel this upcoming semester.


#1: Eat brain foods before you study.


Just like your car needs fuel to drive and perform other important tasks, your brain needs fuel to function correctly. When it comes to studying, healthy brain foods like fruits, veggies, protein, caffeine, and water can help a lot.


#2: Make sure you're well-rested before you study.


Sleep plays an important role in our lives. It clears toxins from our brains, allows our bodies to heal more effectively, and improves our mood. According to research, it also improves our ability to learn, memorize, retain, and recall---which is really useful when you're studying for a quiz or exam.


#3: Create flashcards or study notes.


Flash cards are the most common tool to use for studying. It encourages you to recall information, essentially helping you learn. There are many creative ways to use flashcards

to make studying fun!


#4: Test yourself.

The best way to make sure that you're ready to take a quiz or exam is to test your knowledge of the material. You can create online practice tests on websites like Typeform, easily. Make sure to create different test formats like multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, and true or false.


#5: Take breaks.


It's important to take breaks when you're studying so that your brain can rest and recharge. Doing this will help you recall more information than studying without taking any breaks at all. Research suggests taking a break anywhere from 5-60 minutes will benefit your brain by increasing your ability to focus, productivity, and energy.
